It's like trying to see a faint star. Sometimes you can see it better if you look from the corner of your eye than if you look straight on. Today in my lesson we started simple changes on the diagonal at X. Simple changes are not simple. You have to organize a lot of movement in a brief moment to get a change at X. I was clumsy at it. But as I was working through the new exercise and the lesson progressed, I noticed that other things I work hard at daily--keeping my horse forward, rhythmic, and on the bit--were coming together with less effort than usual. Taking some focus off of them really helped.
