A Bit About Nancy

I have 3 loves:  writing, horses, and teaching.  I try to keep a balance of all three in my life, sometimes in unique ways.  Over the years I have been an elementary school teacher, developer of curriculum, writer of poetry, director of my own overnight camps, riding instructor, trainer, clinician, owner and manager of equestrian facilities, competition manager, and volunteer.

Currently, I am a full-time mom, substitute teacher, and writer.  I live with my 2 daughters in Holly Springs, North Carolina.  In addition to my horse, we own 2 dogs, 3 cats, 1 rabbit, 1 bearded dragon, and 2 snakes.  Meredith Manor, where I gained my equestrian education, is the inspiration for this blog, since it was there that I began journals for my riding classes to reflect on my development as a rider.  I am thankful for the exceptional instruction I received at the Manor.

I ride my Lusitano, Universo, under the instruction of  Kris Barrett and board at Oriana Stables in Cary, NC.   Universo was purchased from Sucandi Farm in Brazil, owned and operated by Roberta Pass.  We are currently showing 4th level with aspirations of Prix St. George.

For the story of how I found my ideal dressage partner in the pursuit of a dream, read my personal narrative published in Dressage Today, 2013.

Share with me your personal journey as a rider.  What are your revelations and discoveries?  What physical skills have you gained as you progress?  What are your fears and tears?  I would love to hear from you, the student, so that we can share our experiences and learn from each other.  Send me your thoughts and I will publish them in the "Reader Reflections" section.  You can use the form below or email me your contribution.  I look forward to hearing from you.
